Welcome from the Headteacher
Welcome to St. Thomas Becket Catholic Primary school. Whether you are an existing or prospective parent or if you are visiting our website for a different reason, we wish you a warm welcome to our community and we hope you find what you are looking for.
‘St Thomas Becket Catholic Primary is a place where children have the opportunity to develop spiritually, creatively, physically, socially and academically; where the talents and abilities of all members are valued and where compassion, tolerance and forgiveness are guiding principles.’ (extract from our Mission Statement). We would invite you to see these values in action for yourself by arranging a visit to the school, either on one of our open days for prospective parents or by arranging a visit via the school office. We are very proud of what our school has to offer, both for our pupils and for their families - parental feedback reinforces our belief that this is a school where all stakeholders work together to ensure successful outcomes for those children who we are privileged to care for.
Our skilled & friendly staff team are dedicated to providing an inclusive learning environment where pupils can flourish during lessons, playtimes or within the many enrichment opportunities that are on offer. Trips and visits are an important part of school life at St Thomas Becket and we constantly strive to make further improvements to our exciting curriculum through bringing learning to life in a variety of creative ways. Equally, academic standards at St. Thomas Becket are very high, and results of national assessments show that our pupils consistently exceed national and local average scores, by considerable margins in many cases.
Our most recent Ofsted inspection highlighted many very positive features of school life, including an ‘Outstanding’ judgement for personal development and early years provision. Inspectors reported that ‘Pupils at this school are polite and welcoming. They have positive relationships with each other based on mutual respect. Pupils who are kind to others are recognised with a special award. This is a diverse and inclusive school where pupils’ differences are celebrated. Staff have high aspirations for all pupils’.
At St Thomas Becket, we are proud of our strong Catholic ethos. We offer a Catholic education where pupils learn to grow in the light of Christ through our RE curriculum and Catholic values, which permeate all aspects of school life. We have a growing number of non-Catholic pupils who are cherished as part of the ‘Becket family.’ Whether you are of the Catholic faith, another faith or no faith at all, you will be welcomed and valued at our school.
