Tree Champion Competition

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our School Council have delivered a thought-provoking assembly focused on COP27 and the Pope’s letter about the climate crisis, protecting our ‘common home’.  Their assembly is available to view on our Eco-Schools G-Suite site.

School Council have encouraged the school to think about the nature which surrounds us, our ‘common home’ starting here at St. Thomas Becket.  They hoped to inspire the other children to appreciate the nature in our school grounds but also to think about protecting our natural environment, in particular trees.

To get the school thinking about how we can help with the climate crisis, School Council have launched a competition to design a tree champion, a character who will speak up for nature, inspire and protect it.  Each child will be given a competition sheet to design their character at home.  There will be prizes for the most creative tree champions.

It could be a person, an animal or a made-up creature. They will be a spokesperson for woods and trees, standing up for them and fighting their corner.  How will their characters voice a tree’s thoughts and feelings? How will they make people listen?

Please return the completed competition entries to your class teacher by November 18th 2022.

I look forward to seeing how creative the children can be in inspiring us to look after nature.

Thank you for your support.
