Newsletter – Wednesday 23rd February 2022

Dear Parents,

We hope you had a wonderful half term.  This term, our topics will be the following:

RE: Thanksgiving and Lent- We are looking at how the mass is a celebration of thanksgiving.  We are practising the responses said in mass.

English: We will be enjoying the Katie Morag books for the next two weeks.  The children will be writing a character description and looking at correctly punctuating question and exclamation sentences.  Next week is Book Week.  Don’t forget dressing up day on Thursday 3rd March!

Maths: We have been working on our addition strategies this week and we will be looking at subtraction next week.  We are also working on learning the 5 times tables.

History: Our big question is ‘How has communication changed since the invention of the telephone?’  We have looked at different communication inventions over the last 12 years including the invention of smart doorbells and watches.  If you have any old mobile phones or devices from the last decade, please share them with your child and talk about the functions – how limited they were compared to today’s smart phones.

Geography: Our big question is: What would Katie Morag find exciting about our local area?  This is a local mapping topic where we will be studying different types of maps, photographs and pictures of Addiscombe.  We will be locating key features such as the churches, school, post office and park.

Computing:  Our unit this term in ‘Emailing’.  We are linking this to our history topic and learning how to communicate electronically and in a safe way.  The children will be using their school Gmail accounts which are secure.  They will only be able to email other people within the school and any outside addresses pre-approved by the teachers.  We are hoping to link to another school in a different locality to enable the children to share and discuss their local areas.

We will begin sending spelling homework again this term.  Please also continue to read with your child and make a comment in their reading record at least once a week.  The children also have books on Bug Club and can use J2Blast (J2E LGfL log ins) to practise their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.  We have also put the new CLIC parent pack on G-Suite so that you see the types of questions the children are working on at the moment.

We look forward to another fun and exciting term.

Kind regards,

Miss Earl and Miss Bird
