The four seasons were the inspiration for this year’s Arts Week at St Thomas Becket Catholic Primary School, culminating in an Arts and Music Exhibition for parents and friends of the school’s pupils. The children were introduced to a range of music genres and the works of Art Nouveau artists Alphonse Mucha, Louis Comfort Tiffany and Antoni Gaudí.

Each class at the school produced a large piece of artwork or sculpture along with their chosen musical piece to showcase the amazing and diverse talent of all the children.

Also proudly exhibited was a full size ‘Tree of Life’ sculpture, created by the members of the School Council and made entirely from recycled plastics to bring attention to the use of plastics and their impact on the environment. Plastic bottles formed the tree’s trunk and branches, with plastic straws also used for branches and twigs and plastic carrier bags cut to create the colourful leaves. The children hoped their powerful use of art would encourage everyone who viewed the tree to REUSE, RECYCLE and REDUCE their own plastics.

The children and staff at the school were delighted at how warmly the exhibition was received by the many people who attended.
